CHAPTER THIRTEEN

I went to bed one night a simple club promoter and woke up a Private Investigator/Lawyer. It felt like I was trapped in an espionage movie with cloak and dagger operations and protagonists around every corner. A guy just minding my own business, to have my peaceful life interrupted by a bunch of thieves, was an incredibly awful feeling.

Some type of powerful force was at work to prevent me from discovery the truth. The closer I got to getting my hands on it, the farther it seemed to flee in the opposite direction.

I realized that I had been trying to find the missing treasure for a year almost nonstop, a very long fight. Many days it so was overwhelming that my head ached because of its magnitude, actually snatching my breath away.

I missed my dad every single day since he had been gone. If I was going to keep my sanity, I couldn’t continue at this pace. I needed a change. I read the newspaper, checking for the latest job offerings and I saw an advertisement for bartending school.

Although, I was making decent money at Junior Careers, I wanted something, needed something more exciting and challenging. And even though I loved the kids, the responsibility of keeping them away from drugs and alcohol was demanding. Wayward kids just have a way of hiding the things they do. Just like I did.
